Electrical System Safety Survey
Gain peace of mind that your boats electrical system is wired in a safe manner and poses no shock or fire hazards. Don’t become a statistic. Marine insurance data shows that the majority of boat fires are caused by an electrical fault. An Electrical Safety Survey is an end to end examination of your boat and will give you a much better understanding of the condition of your electrical systems. Your vessel will be assessed against the most current American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC) technical standards that relate to onboard electrical systems. More information can be found at www.abycinc.org
The survey is a fixed price service depending on size and type of vessel and will take approximately 4hrs. The deliverable will be a written report detailing the findings of the survey and any recommendations with respect to electrical safety issues or on improving functionality and reliability for the safe operation of the vessel and those onboard. It will be a visual inspection only but panels and receptacles may need to be opened for visual access. No changes will be performed, or repairs undertaken, and the boat and its electrical system will be left as it was found. Your written report will be an invaluable resource for planning future maintenance tasks and upgrades. Obviously safety issues should be dealt with immediately but from experience the majority of any recommendations can be addressed by the owner themselves over a period of time, given there is never such a thing as the perfect boat.
The marine environment is harsh and unforgiving on boats and their systems. It is why boats always need regular maintenance. Corrosion, heat and vibration will constantly be working against you. It is also why there are special components and cabling specific for use on boats. We recommend an electrical survey after any significant upgrade work or every 5 years to identify any issues before they become major and expensive problems to rectify. Preventative maintenance is always much cheaper than corrective maintenance!
Your boat survey will address the following key areas
DC System
Battery and charging arrangements.
Onboard Wiring
Electrical Switching and Distribution Panel boards
